The name urticaria is derived from the common European stinging nettle Urtica dioica. A weal (or wheal) is a superficial skin-coloured or pale skin swelling, usually surrounded by erythema (redness) that lasts anything from a few minutes to 24 hours. Usually very itchy, it may have a burning sensation.
Half of all persons affected by chronic urticaria show, at least temporarily, symptoms of urticaria factitia. Urticaria may enlarge, sometimes developing central pallor, and coalesce with other adjacent lesions. They usually appear in crops and are typically short-lived, expanding and then resolving over a few hours without leaving residual marks on the skin (unless there is trauma from scratching). Urticaria factitia: Rubbing, scratching, or scrubbing the skin. Cold urticaria: Contact between the skin and cold. Heat urticaria: Contact between the skin and warmth/heat. Solar urticaria: UV light or sunlight; Pressure urticaria: Pressure; Vibration urticaria / vibratory angioedema: Vibrations; Other forms are.

It often occurs with other forms of urticaria. The triggering stimulus for itching and/or burning skin and the stripe-like wheals is the impact of shear forces on the skin, which arise, for instance when rubbing, scratching or chafing (Ill. 10, 11). Most frequent physical urticaria with mostly linearly arranged wheals in the area of mechanically irritated skin areas, e.g. chafing spots of clothing.
urticaria is classified as either CSU or chronic inducible urticaria (CIndUs) [2, 4]. Within the group of CIndUs, symptomatic dermographism/urticaria factitia, cold- and heat-induced urticarias, delayed pressure urticaria, solar urticaria, and vibratory angioedema are defined as physical urticarias. Non-physical CIndUs include cholinergic
However, the dermographic reaction in patients with urticaria factitia was not significantly intensified after the stress test. Symptomatic dermographism (syn. urticaria factitia, dermographic urticaria) is the most common subtype of physical urticaria.
Patogenese
or workâ a fact which suggests that the mechanism of papular urticaria on such skins is unchanged. Physical urticarias are a unique subgroup of chronic urticaria in which urticarial responses can be reproducibly induced by different specific physical stimuli acting on the skin. These conditions include urticaria factitia/symptomatic dermographism, delayed pressure urticaria, cold contact urticaria, heat contact urticaria, solar urticaria, and vibratory urticaria/angioedema.

The prevalence of mast cells in the skin and in the mucous membranes of the human body explains why urticaria is particularly noticeable in those spots. The activation of the mast cells in the upper (outermost) dermal and mucous membrane layers leads to wheals, while the activation in the lower (deeper) dermal layers leads to deeper swelling (angioedema).
